The Property

We have approximately 40-acres that runs along side the Kuskanax (Koo-scan-ax) Creek, which feeds, directly into the Arrow Lakes. The property is situated at the north side of town just off of Hwy 23 N. Our property is unique to Nakusp and area because we are at lake & creek level. The bank of town is part of our property and so you can’t see or hear downtown Nakusp yet it is a short walking distance. Your clean, comfortable and cozy cabin is nestled in a private, natural, rustic setting.

In the summer months, you can enjoy your morning while listening to cheerful sounds of wildlife; cool down in our refreshing lake while laying around in the afternoon sun; why not have a picnic lunch beside the Kuskanax Creek and enjoy the crisp, clean breeze; for supper you can have a B.B.Q on your private deck and put your feet up and relax for the rest of your peaceful evening. You can roast some marshmallows down by the Fire pit, we supply the wood and nothing goes better with a campfire than a guitar and some songs. So be sure to bring that guitar with you, when you come!

Almost everything is within walking distance! Down a naturally landscaped trail, it is a 10 min. walk to the public beach, park, waterfront walkway etc. and 15 min. walk to downtown Nakusp. We are close to all your favorite summer activities!

You can enjoy 2 Fabulous Hot Springs all year round! Nakusp has all your favorite winter activities to experience as well, before coming back to your cozy and inviting Chalet or Cabin.

A Little History

Grampa & Gramma Murphy bought this property, in 1952. At the time Grampa had purchased the property, it was all bush with some of the creek flowing through it at high water

The property is situated at the north side of town, just off of what is now called, Hwy 23N. At that time, there was no road past the Kuskanax Creek, ( which is where the property is) to go to the Nakusp Hot Springs. There was only a walking trail located up in the bush near Nakusp, that is still open for access. (Nakusp Hot Springs web site (listed in useful links) has details on this trail, under Hot Springs and then Activities. While your there you can check out the History of Nakusp & the Hot Springs.)

As you may have saw earlier, Grampa built Cabin #4 in about 1976 so he could bring all his old cronies down to sip on some homemade brew!

Almost every Sunday Grampa & Gramma would bring their supper down to what they called at the time the campsite, to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Any one of the family could join them anytime they liked, just as many times, we did. I was just a kid then and my cousins and I used to swim right in the creek!? (cold, cold, cold!) But you know kids they can do almost anything! Dinner, at times, was a little late, due to all the fresh air, sun and spirits that go along with it! That was just fine with us kids because there was plenty for us to do & explore! What great times we had!

As sad as it is, both Grampa & Gramma are gone now, but I know how proud and happy they would be to see the property looking so beautiful and being enjoyed by so many people!
Grampa especially, would absolutely love the fact that his cabin has been fixed up the way it is and being loved by so many!

A few years after they had been gone, Dad and Mom wanted to do something special with the property, after all the cabin and property was something special in Mom & Dad’s hearts, as well. They had approached me with their idea. We then began planning, designing and started doing some major shopping sprees!

Shortly after all the decisions were made, 2 new cabins and 1 chalet were in the making and major landscaping was in the works. The cabins
and some large development was done by my brother, Ralph, Dad and other contractors and employees. About a year had passed and we opened as Murphy’s Landing in 1996.

We were about the first cabin accommodation to flare up and we were off to a steady start. We grew mainly by word of mouth which is quite incredible how fast and how many people that can cover! As the years have passed my Dad, a road builder and equipment operator by trade, has continued to landscape and beautify the property with his skill and foresight while still leaving it in a natural state. As well as, Dad hired Bill, who has a keen eye for keeping things pruned and clean, as an employee in the summer months. We are always improving the area, as there is always something to do!

We have been talking and drawing up plans for quite awhile now for new cabins, as we answer in response to many of our faithful customers who always ask when we are going to build more cabins! We have continued to grow in the number of clientele that stay here with us at Murphy’s Landing. Some are now, booking a full year in advance to make sure they receive their favorite cabin at their favorite time to come.
We would love for you to be able to take home the same great times and great feelings that all of us have had! See You Soon!
